Self-guided Desert Botanical Garden tour
$35.00 (Price includes admission to the Garden and roundtrip transportation)

Enjoy a self-guided tour of the nationally and internationally renowned Desert Botanical Garden. Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden offers the world’s finest collection of arid-land plants from deserts of the world in a unique outdoor setting.  The Garden has more than 50,000 desert plants on display throughout five thematic trails that illustrate topics such as conservation, desert living, plants and people of the Sonoran Desert, and desert wildflowers.  

Note:  no outside food or beverage or picnicking is permitted on the Garden grounds.  Onsite dining options include Gertrude's Restaurant and the Patio Café on Ullman Terrace.  If you’d like to enjoy breakfast or Sunday brunch at Gertrude’s restaurant, reservations are recommended.
The bus will depart the Hotel Palomar at 8:30 a.m. arriving at DBG by 9:00 am.  You will have two hours at the Garden and then be on the bus by 11:00 a.m. to return to the hotel by 11:30 a.m.

LEGACY PROJECT
No cost to participate!   We ask that you support this effort so the Women’s Leadership Summit will continue the WLS tradition of leaving a legacy for the communities in which we gather.

Hermoso Park Community Center | Children and Teen Library
This year’s legacy project for the AIA National Women’s Leadership Summit will help establish the new CHILDREN AND TEEN LIBRARY within the Hermoso Park Community Center. As we gather together as AIA leaders, please consider donating a new or gently-used book or cash contribution for the cause.

The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has long been a leader in school-based programs, offering school year and summer activities. This tradition has led to the rebuilding of the Hermoso Park Community Center, located in a well-loved neighborhood park in South Phoenix. The new center will expand the City’s ability to engage multiple generations in community activities, after school programs, and health and wellness initiatives in a new, safe, and vibrant environment.

Neighborhood kids and their families will be welcomed into a supervised program in a location close to home, providing kids an opportunity to make friends, exercise, engage in educational experiences, express ideas through art, and learn to take pride in themselves. As the construction of the new center continues, there is a need for donations to help bring programs online.  

Event Summary
The third in a series of summits started by the Boston Women Principals Group in 2009 and
followed by Kansas City in 2011; the 2013 AIA Women Leadership Summit gathers voices of
Architects serving in various leadership roles, including: Principals, Educators, Owners, Designers,
Environmentalists and Innovators, in an intimate setting to discuss the challenges and
opportunities for women practicing architecture today. The summit strives to engage speakers and
attendees in an open, conversational setting to share both personal and work experiences toward
positive contributions through the practice of architecture.

The 2 day, 5-6 session event begins on Day 1 with an update from National AIA Leadership on
new changes to the organization, Marilyn Taylor as keynote speaker, panel discussions, break-out
sessions, pecha-kucha presentations, and informal opportunities to shed light on successful
endeavors that “Go Beyond” traditional practice – for women in particular and the profession in
general. Day 2 focuses on our collective body of work, inspired by the words of Billie Tsien, AIA,
who will share her perspective on the subject at the Phoenix Art Museum, in Downtown Phoenix –
an outstanding example of one of her many contributions to Arts, Culture and the Urban Fabric.
Summit Contributors represent a cross section of Architects from around the United States, along
with invited guests from Canada and Europe. Unlike traditional conferences, where ideas are
prepared for delivery, the format for this event will foster a more informal sharing of experience,
ideas, and solutions.

Registration Confirmations 
After you register you will receive a registration confirmation via email immediately.  If you do not receive a registration confirmation please contact AIA Meetings or call 800-242-3837.  If you fax the registration form, please keep the fax transmittal confirmation for your records.

Registration Policy

Registrations postmarked after October 11, 2013, will not be processed in time to be included on the attendee roster. Registration and nametags will be produced on-site. 

Cancellation Policy

Refunds, less a $50.00 cancellation fee, will be made for cancellations received in writing by Friday, October 18, 2013. No cancellation refund is available after October 18.  Please fax your cancellation requests to AIA Registrar, 202-626-7365 or email to register@aia.org.
  
Accommodations

A limited block of rooms has been reserved at Hotel Palomar at 2 East Jefferson Street in Phoenix, Arizona. Reservations must be received no later than Monday, September 30 for the group rate; however, the block may sell out prior to the deadline. You are responsible for making your own reservations. To make your reservation, contact the hotel at (602) 253-6633.  Mention that you are with the AIA Women’s Principal Forum to receive the group rate of $169.00 for single/double plus 13.27 percent state and local taxes.  Or you can secure your reservations online.  All reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card when you make your reservation.  The group’s cancellation policy requires cancellations be made 48 hours prior to arrival.

Force Majeure
The performance of this agreement by either party may be affected by force majeure (including, but not limited to, acts of God, acts of war or other acts of enemies, government  regulation, disaster, strikes, floods, civil disorder, curtailment of transportation facilities, or other emergency or event beyond the control of the parties), thus making it inadvisable, unsafe, illegal, or impossible to provide required accommodations and/or meeting facilities, hold the meeting, or travel to the meeting.  In event of force majeure, either party to this agreement may terminate the agreement upon providing written notice to the other party without penalty or obligation.  Such right of termination shall not be unreasonably exercised.

In addition, the AIA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel this meeting.  In that event, the AIA shall refund to you all registration fees that it has received from you for this meeting, but shall have no further obligation to you of any type, whether monetary or otherwise.  Accordingly, the AIA shall in no event have any liability to you based on claims for indirect, special or consequential damages of any type whatsoever, and shall have no other obligation to you of any type except as expressly stated in the preceding sentence.
