Event Summary

As the demand for improved project outcomes continues to drive the design and construction industry, there is increasing pressure transforming the traditional roles and relationships between owners, architects, and builders. This symposium will concentrate on project delivery strategies and their critical place at the nexus of these transformational forces. This transformation is largely driven by how we manage project information. More sophisticated technology has made information more widely available to the project team than ever before. BIM is changing the way building components are fabricated and assembled, blurring the role between designers and builders. With more widespread application of shared risk and reward in contracts, project teams have incentive to collaborate and share information, and therefore are reassessing risk allocation. For the first time, discussions of accountability, trust and commitment are regularly heard in the studio and at the job site.


The goal of this symposium is to broaden the conversation between owners, architects, engineers, constructors, and all parties to the building industry. Industry leaders will offer their perspective on the future. Owners will discuss how they are satisfying their ever-increasing need for improved project outcomes. Builders will offer their view on the changing relationship with the design profession. Technology experts will describe how software will continue to close the gap between conception and production. Architects will present examples of their emerging position as leaders in building more collaborative, high-performing project teams.


Learning Units

Approximately 6 AIA LUs. A survey will be sent to attendees following the event to gather information for continuing education credit and to capture feedback.

Cancellation Policy

Please fax or email your changes or cancellation requests to (202) 626 7556 or email to register@aia.org. Cancellation requests must be made in writing by the deadline of Friday, March 1, 2019. No refunds will be issued after the cancellation deadline, March 1.
